Marta Stephens is the owner of Alchemy Spa & Beautique. She is a master hair stylist and hair color specialist of 18 years who is nationally certified through the American Board of Certified Haircolorist. The American Board was created to set qualified professionals apart from the masses and establish a higher level of professionalism and credibility. As such, all Alchemy clients benefit from Marta’s professional experience and specialization.
Through her career, Marta spent 6 years working as a haircolor educator, traveling to salons throughout the Midwest teaching hair color and inspiring other artists. During that time, she took advantage of the opportunities to assist some of the best artists in the industry, helping to prep and style models for hair shows. Aside from her extensive hair color knowledge, Marta is also a certified Great Lengths Extensionist and has taken hair cutting classes at the Vidal Sassoon Academy. Her career has taken her from California to New York, and so many places in between. One of her most treasured memories in the industry was attending an intimate evening with the late Oribe, listening to him tell stories of styling the first supermodels and Hollywood elite.
Marta is passionate about the beauty industry and staying educated in that realm. The love of learning and surrounding herself with other professionals who continue to teach her has created a calling to mentor and teach a younger generation of hair stylists. It is her belief that sharing information is the only way to continue to raise the educational bar in the industry. Marta enjoys spending time with her 16-year-old mini schnauzer/Maltese mix, Draco, and her two cats, Bruno and Bella. She has a love for adventure and a curiosity that drives her to travel. She is known within her inner circle of creating off the beaten path travel itineraries consisting of beautiful and hidden places to hike, photograph, and explore. Her favorite nights out in Terre Haute are long dinners and plenty of cocktails with best friends!
Marta opened Alchemy in 2017. The salon was created in response to all the appropriate pieces in the universe coming together in a perfect moment at the perfect time. The name Alchemy came from Paulo Coelho’s book, “The Alchemist.” She felt inspired about the transformation that occurred in Paulo’s journey. Alchemy became the perfect name for the business, as it’s a place where women can come to transform. Marta works hard to nurture the salon and spa, but also allows it to breath and grow in a way that she believes is bigger than herself. She is committed to her team of women who share a common goal: to give ladies a place to literally “let their hair down.”
